TMZ Mobile Engagement Up 226% Following Redesign

TMZ reaches over one million fans online everyday, and in 2014 they engaged Work & Co to rethink their mobile applications from the ground up. Since launching in the Google Play Store last December, the Android app has already seen a 226% increase in engagement.

Work & Co began the native redesign and engineering process with Android, before moving onto iOS. Overall improvements since the initial release also include a 30% increase in daily users.

“Having full control over both the design and development of the app really allowed us to fine-tune the experience, especially the animations and transitions between screens, which are often overlooked on the Android platform,” said Work & Co Technology Partner, Marcelo Eduardo. “This also enabled us to ensure the app performed well.”

The new design moves away from its former list style to a more digestible, modern feed framework. Users can scroll through stories one at a time, increasing discovery of additional content. Stylistically, the app’s stark, black background restores the powerful look and feel of TMZ’s classic branding. This cleaner look allows tags to be more visible, so that users can easily path from one article to the next based on topics of interest.

Work & Co’s new app has increased performance by 45%, in both average session length and number of page views. We are now at work finalizing the iOS and mobile web versions.
